For years the Legends series by Umarex has brought historic firearms to life as airgun replicas for shooting enthusiasts.
Now Umarex has created their very own German MP40 submachine gun replica. This .177 caliber BB rifle promises hours of fun with a 60 round magazine and full auto capability! Powered by two 12 gram CO2 cartridges, simply select full or semi-automatic firing, and mow down tin cans like never before.
The "real steel" MP40 was first developed in 1940 for German paratroopers and later became the standard submachine gun for the Wehrmacht infantry. The Legends MP40 is a faithful replica that will transport you back in time the minute you pick it up. The realism is highlighted by the full metal body and folding shoulder stock. The hooded front sight and adjustable rear sight stay true to the original design and keep your eyes on the prize. For fans of WWII military arms, this legendary gun can finally be yours!
Actually I'd give it 4 stars because of envy as my MP40 came without leather strap or "weathered" finish; That shall be a lesson in patience as I got mine as soon as it was available around me neck of the woods.
Anyway. it is indeed a nice replica. it has it's flaws in terms of being true to the real gun however who needs to strip it down right? yes, i found it somewhat awkward trying "un-button" it as it would be done with the real MP-40 and that did not work. Not a problem.
As for shooting it I can only say I always have a blast. Shooting by targeting (sights); for a fully automatic it keeps the grouping wonderfully close and there are no targets or cans of pop not shredded to their demise. If just for fun and not trying to hit that only a one quarter (25 cents diameter size) round target with all the 60 bb's; just put some pop cans on the table and go left to right or viceversa (yup, something as seen in movies) it will be fun. Wear safety glasses as bb's tend to come back at you.
There are couple of things I noticed. With the "clip" designed to accommodate 2 CO2 cartridges I am wondering how long the seals are going to last. and last but not least - I could not find any specs about the grease used on the nut or the o-rings that make this gun be fun... 'cause once the seals are going down there is nothing but pain and no warranty no more.
